Associated Ministries held a brief, spiritual ceremony this morning for a 54-year-old man who was killed inside a downtown Tacoma home.

The Moment of Blessing ceremony for Wayne Williams was held at 10 a.m.

Williams’ partially dismembered body was found March 21 inside a home in the 2300 block of Tacoma Avenue South. He’d been strangled, then his legs and head removed with a handsaw.

Prosecutors have charged a 27-year-old man with first-degree murder in Williams’ death. John Jones has pleaded not guilty and was being held in Pierce County Jail in lieu of $1 million as he awaits trial.

Associated Ministries holds Moment of Blessing ceremonies at the places in Pierce County where homicides have occurred.

The brief, public ceremonies are intended to the cleanse the spot where the death happened and provide comfort to the victim’s friends and families as well as the surrounding neighborhood.
