The father of Josh Powell apparently called in sick to work the day after Powell’s wife mysterious disappeared from the couple’s Utah home in 2009, the Salt Lake Tribune reports.

Steve Powell was off for two days in December 2009, the Tribune reports in this story.

West Valley City Utah police declined to comment on the revelation, citing their on-going investigation.

Steve Powell, meanwhile, is in Pierce County Jail, awaiting trial on voyeurism and possession of child pornography charges. He’s declined to speak to authorities about Susan Cox Powell’s disappearance.

Meanwhile, the chief of the West Valley City Police Department spoke Monday and said investigators didn’t have enough evidence to arrest Josh Powell in his wife’s disappearance. The Salt Lake Tribune has a story on the comments here.
