Man arrested on suspicion of tearing up University Place park

Benjamin R. Morrison had been out four-wheeling Sunday and apparently wanted to do more.

He chose Cirque Bridgeport Park in University Place, Pierce County prosecutors allege, and ended up in handcuffs after tearing up a grass field.

The 28-year-old Tacoma resident is now charged with second-degree malicious mischief after causing $2,000 worth of damage at the park.

Court documents provide the following information.

Several people called 911 on Sunday after seeing a truck “doing doughnuts” on the field at the park on Cirque Drive.

“Witnesses later reported the driver spun the tires on his truck while on the field and caused significant damage to the field while driving on it,” court documents state.

Several baseball players approached the truck and asked the driver, later identified as Morrison, to stop.

The truck kept spinning around near the players.

After a while, the truck drove off the field and picked up another man who’d apparently been making a video of the incident.

Patrol officers spotted the truck a short time later at 19th Street West and Mildred Street West. They conducted a traffic stop and interviewed the driver and passenger.

The passenger told deputies he and Morrison had been four-wheeling. Morrison insisted on four-wheeling at the park even though the passenger said it wasn’t a good idea.

The passenger confirmed he took video of Morrison’s four-wheeling.
Morrison declined to talk to deputies.

His cellphone, which contained the video, was taken into evidence.

He was taken to jail.

  2. Whatever1214 says:

He wasn’t “doing donuts”, he was using his truck to write his I.Q. on grass.

  3. surveyor1 says:

Just another self absorbed idiot that is more concerned with himself than the 1000’s of people that use the park. There is very little personal responsibilty left in America today.

Why didn’t the cops confiscate the truck as downpayment for repairing the damage????

Thank goodness none of the ball players were hurt during his act of stupidity!

This guy needs to be sentenced to one year of hard labor doing maintenance in city/county parks.

After reading this story, I think about how many times I have heard people say that there’s no cure for stupid. Actually there is a cure and it’s called Cyanide.

I agree with all of the comments…he is an idiot, moron, writing his IQ, stupid and etc! I’d say he’s a ‘nincompoop’…which is just another word for what you all said!!!

Hmm. As an employer, I’d be looking real hard at whether I wanted this kind of person working for me….
