A Tacoma mother who reportedly called police to say she had killed her 2-year-old child, was booked into the Pierce County Jail today on suspicion of first-degree murder.

The 28-year-old South End mother was questioned by Tacoma detectives after she reported that she had killed her 2-year-old son.

Police dispatched to the woman’s home in the 3600 block of South Thompson Ave. just after 7 a.m. found the child apparently lifeless. He was pronounced dead at Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital.

The Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office was performing an autopsy on the child’s body Friday afternoon to determine the cause of death.

Tacoma Police spokesman Mark Fulghum said detectives obtained a warrant to search the home for clues.

No other persons were present at the home when police arrived, Fulghum said.

A woman with the same name and age was arrested on drug charges in 2005 in Pierce County. She graduated from drug treatment, and the charges were dismissed, court records show.

Police declined to say whether that woman and the woman jailed Friday were the same persons.
