Lakewood police are searching for a man who pistol-whipped another man and stole $2,500.

“It was a drug deal gone bad,” Lt. Chris Lawler said.

The robber ran into an apartment at Oak Terrace Apartments, 42 Thunderbird Parkway S, and a SWAT team was called out to surround the unit.

Although officers spoke with the robber on the phone at one point, the apartment was empty when police obtained a warrant and entered the unit.

No description of the man was immediately available but Lawler said police know who he is.

I really have to hand it to the officers that responded to this. While it was an inconvenience being locked out of my own home, and even scarier knowing that my son was still in the building (and on the same floor of this incident)….They kept our immediate neighborhood safe, and were absolutely wonderful at keeping us worried parents/tenants calm. Much applaud and appreciation to Lakewood P.D.
