A Tacoma man who initially told police he didn’t know how a dismembered body got in his bedroom was charged with murder today in Pierce County Superior Court.

John Jones, 27, pleaded not guilty today to the first-degree murder charge.
Pierce County Court Commissioner Meagan Foley set Jones’ bail at $1 million.

Pierce County Prosecutor Mark Lindquist said police were alerted last Wednesday by Jones’ mother, who had smelled a foul odor coming from her son’s bedroom in their home in the 2300 block of Tacoma Avenue South. Police found the dismembered body of 54-year-old Wayne Williams lying atop a mattress.

Williams’ legs and head had been severed with a handsaw. They were discovered in separate bags in the bedroom. Williams’ shoes and socks were still on the severed legs.

The Pierce County medical examiner said his autopsy found that Williams had died from manual strangulation. Williams’ body had suffered numerous defensive puncture wounds on his hands and head as if he had fought off his attacker before he died, charging documents contended.

Jones told detectives that he awoke from a drug-induced stupor to find Williams dead in his room. The two had been doing drugs together, he said.

The defendant then claimed that Williams might have died at the hands of drug dealers or gangs to whom he owed money. Tacoma police said they found no evidence that others were involved. No outsiders had access to the bedroom.

The medical examiner pinpointed the death occurring sometime March 18 or 19. Lindquist said that same report said that sawing off the legs and head with a hand saw probably took several hours.

The prosecutor said Jones has a relatively clean prior criminal record. The defendant lived in the home with his mother, his younger brother and his uncle. They have cooperated with investigators in the inquiry.

The prosecutor said he didn’t know what drugs the two were using before the murder.

Jones was arrested late last week and held in the Pierce County Jail while detectives completed their investigation.

WOW!! They must have gotten their hands on some really good shitzzzz! Or NOT! how sad this guy had no criminal past and he did this during a drug-induced stupor? Something smells worse than the AROMA of TACOMA at LOW TIDE.. I am not saying he did not do this but, what a leap from drug user to killer to mutilator??? No matter what he is going to need a REALLY, REALLY GOOD LAWYER for sure…

this must have made a lot of noise??

  6. At the risk of sounding morbid, frankiethomas, I imagine sawing up a corpse could be done quietly. Victim apparently strangled to death already

    Hello,

How about that ride in? I guess that’s why they call it Tacoma!(hahaha)

You guys may not know this, but I consider myself…a bit of a loner. I tend to think of myself as a one man wolf pack. But when my sister brought Doug home, I knew he was one of my own. And my wolf pack, it grew by one. So were two…so there was two of us in the pack. I…I was alone first in the pack, and then Doug joined in later.

And 6 months ago, when Doug introduced me to you guys. I thought…wait a second, could it be. And now I know for sure, I just added 2 more guys to my wolf pack. 4 of us wolves running around the desert together, in Tacoma looking for strippers and cocaine. So tonight, we make a toast!

Maybe Mr. Jones had been drinking or was suffering from PTSD? He loves children. He’s a big kid himself!

I looked in my bathtub today and found some head and shoulders.

Try to remember the kind of dismember
When life was slow and you were mellow.
Try to remember the kind of dismember
When grass was free with your medical card.
Try to remember the kind of dismember
When you were a stoned and mellow fellow.
Try to remember, and if you remember,
Don’t ever tell that policeman fellow.

That is just horrifying. I don’t know how Mark does his job nor anyone in the entire courthouse. I really don’t.

  12. NineInchNachosII says:

he had to split! seriously have you seen the price of drugs these days? They cost an arm and a leg.

  13. Regfool2 says:

Serendipity – really? The courthouse? How about the police, fire, ME office personnel who go to the scene and witness these crimes in situ? THIS is why they deserve the $ they get. Those scenes and smells never disappear completely from one’s brain.

  14. He was my best friend, I asked if I could help him when he left Kitsap, he told me that where he was going was no place for me to be and protected me from the influence of the people who came to get him at the Bethel Saloon/Tavern in Port Torchard, Kidnap County. That is the last time I ever saw him, I heard from his dad what happened, his stepfather, it was very sad and it was almost like because I was the last one to see him alive, people thought I had something to do with it but I set them straight. I didn’t have much money then but I made sure that I always slip some money in his little bronco in the front seat in an envelope so he could pay his cell phone bill and call me once in a while, just to make sure he was okay. I lets his Momma know when I did. I really loved that Man, he was a good man to me and we were very, very good friends,
p.s., my ex wife, Jan fox, in Jefferson county wanted him dead..
    Miss him forever,
    Respectfully. Mike, k.. Marine ..
