Members of the Tacoma Police Department’s gang unit arrested a man overnight after he allegedly led officers on a pursuit, hit a parked car and then crashed into a fence.

Gang officers had received information that the man, who was wanted in a previous shooting and was believed to be armed with a weapon, was in the Hilltop area, police reported. Officers spotted the man in a vehicle shortly after midnight and followed the vehicle as it drove into the South End.

When officers tried to stop the car, it eluded them. The car hit a parked vehicle and kept going, police reported.

The car then crashed into the fence of a nearby school. The suspect ran away but was later captured.

Officers booked the man into Pierce County Jail on suspicion of felony eluding, unlawful drug possession, hit-and-run, obstructing, resisting and the outstanding felony warrant.
