UPDATED at 11:05 a.m.

Tacoma police have arrested one man and were searching for another suspected of breaking into an apartment late Tuesday.

Officers were called just after 10:15 p.m. for a burglary in progress in the 1300 block of Division Avenue, police reported. Officers headed to the scene spotted the suspect’s vehicle in the area of South Eighth and State streets.

When the officers stopped the vehicle, the passenger got out and ran. The driver was arrested.

Officers spotted what appeared to be stolen property from the apartment in the back of the suspect’s vehicle. They also discovered the vehicle had been reported stolen, police reported.

The driver was booked into Pierce County Jail early today on suspicion of burglary, possession of stolen property, possession of a stolen vehicle and unlawful drug possession.

Detectives will be looking at whether the man is connected to a series of burglaries in the Sector 1 and 2  in which the thieves use a vehicle to smash into garage doors and then slipping inside to steal valuables.

“It’s a different kind of burglary,” police spokesman Naveed Benjamin said of the apartment burglary from Tuesday night. “It’s too early to say.”
