Lakewood police are searching for a man suspected of sexually assaulting a woman at gunpoint inside her apartment.

The department released a composite sketch of the attacker today in hopes that someone will be able to identify him.

According to police, the victim returned to her apartment in The Village at Seeley Lake Apartments in the 9500 block of 59th Avenue Southwest about 7:30 a.m. Friday.

She heard a knock at the door. The visitor said he was “maintenance,” police said.

When the woman opened the door slightly, the man forced his way inside. He pulled out a black handgun and sexually assaulted the woman.

The attacker was described as white, late 30s to early 40s, 5 feet 9 to 5 feet 10 and 180 to 200 pounds. He had an athletic/muscular build, short, dark brown or black hair, a tan complexion and a thin mustache with a few gray hairs. He also had “laugh line wrinkles,” police said.

The man wore a dark baseball hat high on his head, a dark-colored polo shirt and light-colored blue jeans that either had dirt or discoloration on the front of both thighs.

Lakewood police ask anyone with information about the suspect to call detectives at 253-830-5064 or Tacoma-Pierce County Crime Stoppers at 253-591-5959. They also would like to talk with anyone who saw suspicious vehicles, activity or people in the area before the attack.

Crime Stoppers is offering up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest and charges filed in the case. Tipsters may remain anonymous.

The department urges residents to be aware of their personal safety and their surroundings at times.

“Women in the area are encouraged to travel in pairs and carry a cell phone to call for help,” Lakewood police stated. “Do not answer the door to someone you don’t know without seeing official identification or verifying the identity/employer. When in doubt, keep the door locked and call the police.”

Now, that is a great sketch.

  2. I saw this guy in an episode of South Park.

Ouch How do any criminals get captured in this area? That drawing is horrible. I hope they do a comparison whenever he is caught. Police sketch artists need to be held accountable !

  4. NineInchNachosII says:

Looks like it was drawn by Napoleon Dynamite

  5. NineInchNachosII says:

Looks like Napoleon Dynamite drew that thing. Look at all the extra shading on the lip.

NineInch “whatever” you are an idiot. Your comments make that clear. A woman was brutally raped here and all you can think of to say is some BS comment on the artwork??? As a working professional with a degree in fine art, I can tell you that police sketches are not meant to impress. They are meant to generate leads. Think of the last time you saw some really weird looking person or just spent time staring at your own mother…there are strange looking people in the world. What matters is what the victim thinks of the composite. The victim dictates what is drawn and what the final outcome will be. Save your art opinions for your next wine party…

Unless the crime was done by a large albino chimpanzee who also happened to lack a nose, I doubt this drawing will be generating many leads. You can yell at NineInch regarding his critiques, but his point is valid- a good drawing might have gotten SOMEONE reading the paper to say to themselves, “this looks like Bub who lives next door.” Instead, Bub will walk free while the police keep getting tips leading to the Point Defiance Zoo.
