A man’s body was found in The Narrows this evening and Pierce County sheriff’s detectives are trying to determine how he got into the water.

A woman discovered the body about 7 p.m. in the 4500 block of Holly Lane in Gig Harbor. Officers on a Tacoma police boat responded and brought the body ashore.

The Medical Examiner’s Office will perform an autopsy Tuesday. No information about the man was immediately available.

“There are possibilities it could have been somebody that jumped off the bridge or possibilities that it’s somebody who went down the cliff,” sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said.

Investigators are still scouring the area tonight.
