Roy Alloway
Former Bremerton Police Department detective Roy Alloway was sentenced this afternoon to 24 months in federal prison by U.S. District Court Judge Ronald Leighton.

Alloway, 57, sold guns illegally – more than 700 between 2005 and 2010, and possibly twice as many, prosecutors say. He banked the money – more than $178,000 – and didn’t report it on his income taxes.

According to prosecutors, 77 of those guns were seized in drug raids where Alloway was a participant or an insider with direct access to the seized weapons. He spent a decade as a point man for WestNET, a federal drug task force based in Kitsap County.

In October, Alloway pleaded guilty to charges of unlawful firearms dealing and filing false tax returns.

Over a five-year period, agents with the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives twice warned him that he needed a license to sell firearms, the record states. Fellow sellers, including a one-time business partner, echoed those warnings.

“I guess I’d just say that this warning thing, I’m sorry I didn’t understand that better,” Alloway said in court today.

“Given opportunities to change his behavior he simply ignored the law,” U.S. Attorney Bruce Miyake argued in court. “What it tells us is that he didn’t care.”

  1. If the gun used in the WSP killing or the shooting at the school yesterday are tied to Alloway he should have that sentence multiplied by ten for each of those crimes….and all the others committed with the guns he put out there.

I know, if he didn’t sell them the guns someone else would have, but he’s a former cops so he should definitely know better. Maybe the IRS will come down on him even harder!

  2. WonTonsInMySoup says:

I’m surprised he got that much time.

  3. pikgitar says:

If I would have been busted and convicted of those crimes I shudder to think the time I would have received.

  4. Comput3rguy says:

these are the ones that got caught just think of the cops and ex-cops that don’t get caught….

  5. dinocrusher says:

a five year investigation and he gets 2 years????

  6. jeanmward says:

I’m happy to hear he got two years in a federal pen! An ex-cop/detective knows what he did was wrong and ignored the TWO chances he was given to come clean and obtain a license to sell firearms. It’s called GREED! Follow the money! Sorry bud, but you need to do the time. And after you get out, just try and get a job or buy a gun with your record! It “ain’t
    happening”! What a dumb guy!

  7. Harley5212001 says:

This is a sham to the general public. All that talk about being “trustworthy” and “ethical”….yeah, RIGHT. He should have the book thrown at him. Not understanding the rules…..again, yeah right! He was TRAINED to know the rules. General public could have pleaded ignorance, but since when is that an excuse. Hardship on him cause he will have to leave his family at home………Gee, I feel really bad about that…..Explain to your kids and wife “why you are ABOVE the law!

  8. The Feds warned him yet he continued to illegally sell guns? Joe blow does not get a warning, and certainly more then 2 years for selling 700 guns illegally. Shame!

  9. fivecardstud says:

He will end up in a country cub joint and with one day a week off for being a good boy. Thats 52 weeks times 2 is 104 days off his sentence. The Feds have some pretty nice pens with bowling alleys and golf so he’ll be like Martha Stewart. Probably though after a yr. he will go to work release.

  10. fivecardstud says:

Filing false tax returns huh? Any of us would have illegal sales of firearms, Income Tax Evasion, conspiracy, and maybe even terrorist charges among others. They scratch each others backs.

  11. What a smalltimer!!! Glad he didn’t move to Texas and hook up with the gun dealers selling to mexican druglords. He could have made some real money. The crowd down there would have shown him how to hide his dough!!!

  12. Time for FBI to shake down Kitsap County top to bottom. Come to think of it, they sell guns too!!!

  13. The gun Christopher Monferd used to kill SPD officer Timothy Brenton was bought from Roys partner two days before Tim died.

Two years is a joke. But better then nothing.

Still just a good ole boy club. You or I would have done lots of hard time. Not the pig. He gets a slap on the wrist.

  14. DudleyDewright says:

Maybe Roy can make the new State NRA license plates while he is in
    the slammer!

  15. ItalianSpring says:

navguy- Soooo true. Here’s a guy who has outperformed Holder as a one man show. Obomba should give him a czarship.

  16. ItalianSpring says:

Regarding taxes, he’s giving Geithner a run for his turbotax too.

  17. Well, it looks like justice is now up to the victims of dirty cop Alloway. Everyone who pleaded guilty based on his statement of probable cause facts needs to retain an attorney and file a motion to set aside the judgment. Then, when about a couple hundred of these are filed, maybe the Kitsap County Prosecutor can take time off from the KRRC case and file perjury charges and/or obstruction of justice charges against dirty cop Alloway. I’d be interested in watching him defend himself from jail like so many others have to do.

Just to make it interesting, each person who pleaded guilty should file a damage claim against the City of Bremerton. The mayor is entitled to that sort of attention since she said this whole case has nothing to do with the city.

  18. ReadNLearn says:

All he had to do was get an FFL (Federal Firearms License) and abide by the requirements.
