A reader called The News Tribune around noon and inquired about police activity in the area of South 23rd Street and Union Avenue. He saw several police cars and officers with their guns drawn.

What was going on, he asked.

Tacoma police spokesman Mark Fulghum reports that officers responded to a call of a man carrying a rifle. The officers searched the area but did not find the man.
