The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for five counties, including Pierce County, with several inches of rain this week potentially causing rivers to overflow.

The flood watch will last from Tuesday night through late Thursday.

Forecasters said up to an inch of rain could fall in the lowlands by Wednesday, with another 3⁄4 of an inch by Thursday.

The Cascades could see 3 1⁄4 inches through Thursday. Snow levels will rise to 6,000 feet Tuesday.

Rivers most at risk include the upper Puyallup, Skokomish and Chehalis, according to the Weather Service.

Forecasters said the predicted rain, coupled with increasing soul moisture and snow melt, could also increase the possibility of landslides through the end of the week.

Other counties included in the flood watch are Thurston, Grays Harbor, Lewis and Mason.

  1. Stacey, in spirit of accuracy, you & headline writer need to get on same virtual page. In weather world a ‘watch’ precedes a ‘warning.’ These W words mean different things; they’re not interchangeable. Headline uses wrong word. Acccording to Weather Service, a watch has not been issued, not a warning. Your lead sentence uses correct term, your last sentence does not. From an old USAF weather observer….

  2. In the spirit of accuracy, the correct spelling is Stacie :) ……

  3. I wonder if “increasing soul moisture” will affect any acts at the Emerald Queen?

Maybe they are having a band cover for “My Soul is Wet” by the great Mutha’s Day Out.

  4. Says Stacia on my screen… :)

  5. Tracianne says:

In the spirit of accruacy….What is with this…..a watch has not been issued, not a warning. Which is it, A watch or a warning?
