Update, 7:30 a.m. Sea-Tac Airport has reopened one runway. Some planes are now being allowed to land and take off.

Earlier post: Sea-Tac Airport has closed its three runways this morning because of ice.

“This is a pretty rare event for us,” airport spokesman Perry Cooper told KIRO TV.  Cooper said he thought such an event hadn’t occured for at least 10 years.

Cooper told KIRO that the 6 a.m. hour is a critical time for departures. Crews are working with deicer fluid.

The airport hoped to have one runway open soon.

Alaska Airlines has cancelled several flights.

We will update this post when more information becomes available.
