Pierce County sheriff’s detectives are trying to identify a man suspected of stealing a 1-karat diamond ring from a South Hill department store last weekend.
Tacoma-Piece County Crime Stoppers released a surveillance image of the man today in hopes someone recognizes him.
The man was seen hanging around the jewelry counter at Kohl’s, 16918 Meridian Ave. E., several times between 12:45 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.
About 5:30 p.m., the man asked the sales clerk to show him a princess cut, white gold diamond ring wedding set. When she did, he grabbed the ring and ran out, deputies reported. The stolen ring is valued at $5,000.
The thief was described as white, in his 20s and 5 feet 7 to 5 feet 9. He weighed 140 to 160 pounds and had an auburn beard and mustache. He wore eyeglasses with black rims, a gray beanie, a black jacket, black shoes and saggy blue jeans.
Crime Stoppers is offering up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest and charges filed in the theft. Tipsters may remain anonymous.
