The Olympic Region Clean Air Agency is upping the burn ban for Thurston County residents.
A Stage 2 burn ban took effect this morning at 9 a.m. The county had been under a Stage 1 burn ban since 4 p.m. Wednesday.
Under a Stage 2 burn ban, no burning is allowed in fireplaces or wood stoves – certified or uncertified, the agency reported. In addition, all outdoor burning is prohibited.
The ban is in effect indefinitely. It will be lifted when the weather changes and air quality improves, the agency reported.
Mason County as well as Pierce, King, Snohomish and Skagit counties remain under a Stage 1 burn ban.
