A pedestrian was hit and injured Monday night while trying to cross Pacific Ave in Tacoma’s South End.

Tacoma police report the man was intoxicated and started crossing the roadway in an unmarked crossing in the 8400 block. The pedestrian was struck by a northbound vehicle just after 8 p.m.

He suffered a broken leg and was taken to a hospital for treatment, police reported.

The driver stopped and was interviewed by Tacoma police. There were no signs of impairment, Tacoma police spokesman Mark Fulghum reported.

  1. TacomaRick says:

People are always crossing Pacific like that. Its hard to see them, especially when its dark and raining.

  2. flatbedtrucker1977 says:

Most of them are either selling or buying crack right there. It’s like watching an episode of COPS live…

  3. If the driver isn’t impaired but they’re in the wrong
    will the police do anything?

  4. serendipity says:

I don’t think they are usually buying drugs. I think they are mostly young adults out having fun at clubs, etc. What an erroneous steretype! In addition to that, there are a lot of condos in that area.

  5. We have had a couple of instances where we needed the Tacoma Police and they never showed up. They don’t if there isn’t a death or severly injured. I had a trucker run over my car in September and had to insist that an officer come because the trucker called me every name he could think of and seem violate. I was in my lane at a stop and he came off the freeway onto Portland and hit me. I was at a dead stop and in my lane. Because I wasn’t injured no police report was issued. The trucker lied to his insurance company and denied my claim because I didn’t have an accident report. So my insurance paid for it. So wrong, both insurance companies said that I needed an accident report. It was my word over his. The body shop said that the type of damage showed that he hit me. Another instant at 10:00 pm a guy hit the round deround where 2 street come together. The guy was intoxicated and pulled off. We had all the information including type of car etc. Dispatcher told us that unless someone was injured she would not dispatch an officer. We pay our taxes for nothing!
