Associated Ministries will conduct a Moment of Blessing ceremony today for a 26-year-old mother killed New Year’s Day while sleeping on the couch of an East Side home.

The brief, spiritual ceremony will begin at 1 p.m. at the home in the 8400 block of East D Street.

Tacoma police have said Michelle Davis was shot and killed late Sunday by her ex-boyfriend. The 22-year-old man killed himself a short time later outside Larchmont Elementary School.

The Moment of Blessing ceremonies are designed to reclaim the places in Pierce County where homicides occur. They are intended to provide comfort to the victim’s famiy, friends and the neighborhood where the crime occurred.

The ceremonies are open to the public.
