Tacoma police report this evening that a teenager’s been shot in the hand in what appears to be an accident near a montessori school.

The shooting occurred in the 6500 block of South 10th Avenue about 7 p.m., police spokesman Mark Fulghum said.

Some teenagers were hanging out near the school when “a drunk couple” approached them and showed them a gun, Fulghum said.

The weapon discharged at one point, striking one of the teenagers, he said.

The drunk couple ran off.

  1. This is my younger brother who got shot, i talked to my mom who is at the hospital with him, she said he told her that it was some random black guys, total hoodrats…, could have been a gang initiation or something, they were not showing him a gun or anything but fired at him from 50-100 feet away while he was skating with his friends, the .45 caliber went through his right hand, they are not sure if he lost function of his hand or not, he will have surgery on monday.

  2. This was my brother that got shot. The report makes it sound like he shot himself, this is not true.
It was a drunk guy with his girlfriend, they were cussing everybody out, my brother told the guy to shut up, the dude started fumbling around in his pants, his girlfriend started yelling at him to put the gun away, my brother turned around and started running, the guy shot at him while my brother was running away.
The .45 caliber went through his right hand breaking his middle finger, he has no feeling in his hand now, the doctors do not know if he lost function of it.

The cops are trying to make it sound like my brother shot himself, they gave up the search for the shooter very quick, my brother pointed them to the appartment the guy came from, there was witnesses, yet cops are making it sound like it was an accident so they dont have to do anything… hell why would they want to risk being shot to?

  3. oh and it was some hoodrat white dude, not a black guy

  4. The city needs to do a better job at protecting our youth from incidents like this whether it was an accident or not. What if it was a school day and the bullet happen to hit a child enjoying their recess and if that would have been about 4 which is only 3 hours before the incident, the victim could have well been a staff member leaving the school to head home. I know there isn’t too many people out there stupid enough to direct or cause any harm to a school and child but it has happened in other places and it always better to be safe then sorry ..but yeah hope the victim makes a quick recovery and thankfully for him , he didn’t lose his ability to skate it up .

A person claiming to be related provides two different stories right here and wonders why the popo don’t take this as a direct stranger involved situation. I think the police or anyone who has seen a few episodes of any forensic show would know quickly whether this was a close or distant gunshot wound by the evidence.

  6. Well the first story was from my mom on the phone, the second was what my brother told me.

I’ll believe my brother over the cops any day, my brother pointed them to the apartment the guy came from and they did not even search, what happens to the next guy who comes across this criminal? What happens when the bullet hits a major organ instead of a hand? then the cops will conduct a search? i highly doubt it.

How do they know it was .45?

Did they recover the shell casing? Just curious.

  8. I am the victim. what lyosha said is true and the policemen told me they recovered the casing and it was a .45
went through my hand and broke my fingers

  12. i was unable to see his face but he wore baggy jeans a black jacket and a beanie with a bill on it [beanie hat]
the girl was about 5’7″ the male was around 6’0″ 250+ lbs
the woman was blonde and skinny
the male might be a raging alcoholic, he threw the girl on the floor and fired

I grew up near that part of town and in the 70’s we called the Spanish Hills Apartments “Spanish Harlem” due the proliferation of lowlifes in the complex. It sounds like it has not gotten any better since then and perhaps worse.

It is one reason Hunt Middle School was one of the worst performing schools in the state.
