Who tries to rob an ice-cream shop in December?

Apparently a 40-something Tacoma man who’d had too much to drink.

The fellow stumbled into the Baskin-Robbins shop near Sixth and Sprague about 6 p.m. Monday and told a worker there to fill a bag with money.

The employee refused, and the man stumbled out again, Tacoma police spokesman Mark Fulghum said.

Police officers dispatched to the scene looked over images from the store’s surveillance system and put out a description. One of their colleagues thought the description matched that of a man who he talked to Monday, Fulghum said.

Sure enough, same guy. Police arrested him.

On the way to jail, he allegedly threatened to beat up the officer transporting him, court documents state.

He pleaded not guilty to attempted second-degree robbery this afternoon.
