A 48-year-old man was shot by a home owner in Port Orchard early Saturday morning, shortly after police tried to stop him with a taser, News Tribune news partner KIRO TV reported.

According to KIRO:

Port Orchard police responded to a hang-up call to 911 around 1 a.m. Police officers contacted the man in the road, in the 1100 block of Tacoma Avenue.

There was a confrontation, and police fired a taser at the man, although it is uncertain if the taser struck him. The man fled and broke into a nearby house.

The homeowner and the suspect struggled, and the homeowner fired one round, striking the suspect.

The man was taken to the hospital and police continued investigation of the incident Saturday.
