A one-car accident on Highway 16 early Saturday morning near Purdy took the life of the driver of a 2003 BMW, the Washington State Patrol reported.

Trooper Guy Gill said the car was traveling westbound on the highway when it went off the road to the right. He said the car traveled several hundred feet, hitting trees and shrubs, and caught fire.

The identity of the driver was not immediately released.
