The Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office will be conducting an autopsy today on a 42-year-old Pierce County Jail inmate who died Wednesday.

Corrections officers at the jail found Micah Tyler bleeding heavily from a shunt in his arm Wednesday morning in his cell. He was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center, where he died, Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said.

Tyler, who had been in and out of jail, was currently being held on second-degree assault.

Troyer reported that Tyler a medical condition that required him to have a dialysis port in his left arm. Investigators believe he tried to remove the port in early November and had to be treated.  He also received medical treatment the next day after the shunt started to bleed.
