Pierce County prosecutors filed charges today against a 35-year-old man suspected of groping several college students in Parkland.

Zane L. Nixon, a detention officer at Remann Hall juvenile jail, was charged with one count of third-degree rape and eight counts of fourth-degree assault with sexual motivation. He was expected to be arraigned on the charges this afternoon.

Nixon was arrested last week after Pacific Lutheran University security officers spotted him walking in the area. Nixon resembled the suspect in a series of groping incidents around the campus in recent weeks, the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department reported.

Two days earlier, Tacoma-Pierce County Crime Stoppers had released information about the incidents and a composite sketch of the suspect.

The suspect had approached six young women who were walking along. The suspect grabbed their buttocks or breasts, then walked away.
The incidents occurred between Oct. 30 and Nov. 20.
