UPDATED at 8:40 a.m.
Scattered power outages have been reported this morning in several Western Washington counties because of the windy and rainy weather.
So far, Pierce County residents appear to be spared, although Woodmont Elementary School in Federal Way is closed today due to a power outage.
At of 6:30 a.m., Puget Sound Energy reported scattered outages in King, Thurston, Skagit, Kitsap, Island, Jefferson and Whatcom counties. Assessors have been dispatched and crews were working to get the electricity back on.
A dispatcher in Thurston County reported some flooding and water over the roadway “all over the place.” Cars were getting stuck in the water.
Water also is reported over the roadway in parts of Pierce County.
The National Weather Service has a high wind warning on the coast until noon today, flood watches through Wednesday night for rivers that easily flood in Western Washington, and a winter storm warning for the north Cascades until 6 p.m. today for up to a foot of new snow.
Forecasters expect rain, showers and mountain snow to continue across the state through the Thanksgiving weekend.
Tacoma Power advises the following if your lights go out:
Call the utility at (253) 502-8602 to report the outage. Use this number to report outages, downed power lines and other damage to the electrical system, like downed wires or trees on power lines.
Keep drapes and curtains closed to help keep in heat. Blankets draped over the windows provide even more insulation.
Turn off or unplug all electrical appliances except your refrigerator and freezer. Keep one light on so you know when the power comes back on.
Use hot water sparingly. Most hot water tanks are insulated and will keep water hot for up to three days depending on how much hot water you use.
Use your generator safely. An improperly installed generator can “backfeed” into the electric system and energize dead lines, causing serious injury or death to electrical workers or people who may accidentally contact fallen lines.
