A 26-year-old Bonney Lake man who was driving a car that crashed early Saturday in Enumclaw has died.
Derek T. Phifer died Sunday at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, the Washington State Patrol reported Monday.
Troopers believe Phifer was going east on state Route 164 about 1:45 a.m. Saturday when he crossed into the westbound lanes just east of Southeast 382nd Street. His car left the roadway and hit several trees.
The car wasn’t discovered until several hours later when walkers spotted the wreckage, troopers reported.
Phifer’s passenger – a 27-year-old Kirkland woman – was hanging upside down in her seat belt. Emergency workers cut her out of the vehicle and took her to Harborview Medical Center for treatment. She was listed in satisfactory condition Monday.
Troopers said evidence at the scene suggested drugs and/or alcohol were factors.
