A 40-year-old man who was struck and killed Monday while trying to cross Portland Avenue has been identified as Arlo Pelela.

The Puyallup man wheeled his motorized wheelchair into the street in the 7900 block in front of a Jeep Cherokee, Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said.

Pelela was not in a crosswalk or intersection.

The Jeep Cherokee’s driver, a 25-year-old man, was not cited or arrested.
