Investigation points to ‘discord’ between son and slain father in Thurston County case

The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office has announced that its investigation of Jimmie Asher Jr.’s homicide by gunshot Sunday night has revealed “some discord between father and son,” according to a news release.

Asher Jr.’s 13-year-old son is charged with second-degree murder in connection with his father’s death. According to court papers, the boy fatally shot his father about 11 p.m. at their home in the 10900 block of Delphi Road as he slept with his fiancée in their bed.

“Witness testimony will support the assertion of the discord between the Ashers,” reads a news release from Thurston County Sheriff’s Lt.

Lakewood police release names of officers involved in deadly shooting of soldier

I’m at the courthouse on another matter but just saw this in my e-mail. It’s from Lakewood police Lt. Chris Lawler:

On October 23rd, at approximately 1:12 AM, Lakewood Police Officers responded to a report of a person shot and on the ground in the 4800 block of Yew Lane Southwest.  The 911 caller reported that a person was down on the ground, bleeding, and was holding onto a semi-automatic pistol.

The caller reported hearing one gunshot and went outside to investigate.  He reported that he discovered a male lying in the street with what appeared to be gunshot wound.

2 injured after rollover on I-5 in Lacey

Two people were injured Wednesday around 10 p.m. on Interstate-5 near Martin Way, when the driver failed to maintain control of the 1997 Saturn they were in and drove off the roadway, striking the cable barrier in the inside median. The car rolled over and came to rest on its top.

Both the driver and the passenger were transported to St. Peters Hospital. The passenger, Oscar Rodriguez-Guevara, 23, has a compound fracture to his left leg and the driver, Luis A. Martinez-Alvarenga, 21, has a fractured spine.

WSP: Impaired elderly man led troopers in pursuit on I-5

An elderly man suspected of being impaired by prescription drugs led Washington State Patrol troopers on a pursuit this afternoon.

Multiple people called 911 about 3 p.m. to report an erratic driver who was taking up all the lanes on southbound Interstate 5.

“The driver struck a guardrail and a barrier on different occasions,” trooper Guy Gill said. “They were very poor driving patterns to say the least.”

Troopers tried to pull the man over but he refused to stop, initiating a chase that reached speeds of 80 mph.

Gig Harbor girl reports man persisted in trying to get her in his van

School officials in Gig Harbor are asking parents to speak with their children about safety after a student reported that a man repeatedly tried to get her into his vehicle while she walked to school last week.

The girl reported the incident Oct. 21. Goodman Middle School sent a letter to parents and posted it on their website this week.

Vaughn man pleads not guilty in wreck that killed Gig Harbor woman

A 62-year-old man accused of causing a head-on crash that killed a Gig Harbor woman earlier this month pleaded not guilty this afternoon to vehicular homicide.

Pierce County Superior Court Judge pro-tem Gary Steiner ordered Marvin Odell Moody of Vaughn jailed in lieu of $250,000 bail.

The crash occurred about 8:20 p.m. Oct. 9 on state Route 302 at 144th Street Northwest.

State troopers reported Candice A. Baima, 51, was driving her Ford Explorer west on Route 302 when the pickup Moody was driving crossed the centerline and smashed into her.

Tacoma Council candidate Robert Hill competent to stand trial in judge-threat case

A Pierce County Superior Court judge this afternoon ruled Tacoma City Council candidate Robert Jesse Hill mentally competent to stand trial on a felony charge of intimidating a judge.

Judge Edmund Murphy signed the order after reviewing reports from officials at Western State Hospital that stated Hill, 41, understands the legal proceedings against him and is competent to assist in his own defense.

Murphy then ordered Hill jailed in lieu of $25,000 pending trial. Hill also is being held in several other legal matters.

Prosecutors last month charged Hill with intimidating a judge after he allegedly contacted Tacoma Municipal Court

Kent police searching for man, pickup truck involved in fatal crash

Kent police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a driver involved in a fatal crash Saturday night.

The collision occurred about 10:30 p.m. in the 23500 block of 104 Avenue SW. Vadim Yakimov, 23, was killed while crossing the street in front of his home.

Witnesses said a pickup truck traveling south hit the man and threw him into the next lane, where Yakimov was struck by a second vehicle.

The second driver stopped but the driver of the pickup truck fled the scene.
