School officials in Gig Harbor are asking parents to speak with their children about safety after a student reported that a man repeatedly tried to get her into his vehicle while she walked to school last week.
The girl reported the incident Oct. 21. Goodman Middle School sent a letter to parents and posted it on their website this week.
The student reported that a man in a white minivan offered her a ride. After she refused, “the man persisted by telling her that she would be late and that he had just dropped his child off at school for band,” according to the letter.
Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said there have been no other incidents.
I can remember walking a mile to school, partially through a wooded area. Now, my child is not allowed out in the yard alone. What a pathetic statement about the decline of our world.
Regfool2 – But really, the world is not a more dangerous place, we are just more inundated with news about how dangerous it is. Violent crimes, kidnappings, etc are all down over the past two decades so the only reason people are fearful for their children is because the thought of them being taken is always on our minds due to the constant news reports of it.
I agree with both…sorta.
When growing up in California, I never heard about every detail of every crime that happened in every city in every state.
We played in the street or at the park at all hours of the day or night.
Of course, criminals were kept in prison…not let loose to frequent those same streets and parks.
Today I would not wander those same streets and parks without an escort
