A 55-year-old Lakewood man was injured tonight after a trailer disconnected from another vehicle and struck him, the Washington State Patrol reported.

The collision occurred about 4:50 p.m. on the ramp connecting southbound Interstate 5 to 38th Street.

A 60-year-old Roy man was pulling a utility trailer behind his 1997 Dodge Ram as he approached 38th Street.

Somehow the trailer got loose and hit the Lakewood man’s 1999 Ford Ranger, which was totaled.

He was taken to Tacoma General Hospital with unknown injuries.

Troopers are investigating the crash.

The man pulling the trailer was not injured.
