UPDATED as of 1:45 p.m.

Pierce County prosecutors have charged a 53-year-old Elbe man with the shooting death of his daughter’s boyfriend earlier this week.

Michael Lawrence Hamil was arraigned this afternoon on one count of first-degree murder. He was ordered held in Pierce County Jail in lieu of $1 million bail.

Hamil went to an Eatonville fire station Monday night and told firefighters he’d shot Matthew Dunn, a 42-year-old Eatonville resident. He reported that Dunn had seriously injured Hamil’s daughter several weeks earlier, court documents state.

“The daughter was hospitalized as a result,” charging documents state. “When the daughter was released from the hospital, Dunn again assaulted the daughter.”

Hamil reported that Dunn came over to his property on Monday afternoon. He said he shot Dunn twice with a shotgun, then hid the body on the property in the 18800 block of state Route 706.

Deputies went to the property and found Dunn’s body wrapped in a tarp near a structure, court documents state. A shotgun also was found.

If the dead SOB had been in jail where he belonged, he would be alive. If someone hurt my daughter like that, shooting would be too good for him..Where the hell were the police when the daughter was being beat up??? Typical small town BS.

He looks like a nice guy with a decent job and family. Too bad this “just happened” to him and his daughter. Can’t see any reason why it would. Elbe looks to be a great area to live.

Held on $1 million bail? Really??? He turned himself in, he showed remorse, probably lost sleep over the nights he knew he had done wrong…$1 million, thats a little excessive dont you think? He’s not a mass murderer, just has a daughter that made horrible choices, put up with the dead guy because she was probably afraid for her life….now her Dad is in jail. Dad obviously saw no way out and then regreted what he did. He walked right into the police dept!

All it will take is 1 juror that has experienced domestic violence and he will be a free man again. Good Luck Lumpy!

  5. uratroll says:

Sounds like he was afraid for his daughters life. With that history it appears to be a justifiable shooting to me. What’s up with that judge?
