Diaries written in childhood and adolescence by missing Utah mother Susan Cox Powell will remain private, according to a court ruling issued this morning.

Pierce County Superior Court Judge Vicki Hogan upheld an injunction forbidding publication of the diaries, siding with arguments made by Powell’s parents.

Attorneys for Powell’s husband Josh argued against the injunction, framing it as a free-speech issue. Attorneys for Powell’s parents argued that privacy was the decisive factor. Hogan agreed.

“This is a privacy case,” she said. “Publication will cease immediately.”
