Investigators were reportedly looking for the journals of a missing Utah mother when they searched the South Hill home Thursday where her husband and two children have been living.
Detectives from West Valley City, Utah, and the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department spent hours at the home where Josh Powell has been living since wife, Susan Cox Powell, disappeared in December 2009. Josh Powell, 35, is a person of interest in the case but has never been arrested or charged. He’s denied harming his wife.
In an interview Thursday night with Dateline NBC, Josh Powell said, “The warrant is to take Susan’s journals and any digital copies of the journals. They said they want all the computers that could possibly have a copy of her journals.”
The Salt Lake Tribune reported that the investigators removed several computer towers and boxes from the home. Investigators also searched Josh Powell’s minivan.
“We’ve actually accomplished what it is we hoped to accomplish,” West Valley City police Lt. Bill Merritt told the Salt Lake Tribune near the end of the six-hour search. “The items we collected today are definitely going to further the investigation.”
Josh Powell’s father, Steve Powell, told reporters gathered outside his home early today that investigators also took his personal journals.
