Attorneys are set to deliver closing arguments this afternoon in the last trial connected to a home invasion shooting last year that killed an Edgewood father.

Prosecutors allege three men and a woman robbed and killed James Sanders the night of April 28, 2010, after he advertised as diamond ring for sale on Craigslist. Three of the defendants have already been convicted and sentenced to prison for their roles in the attack.

Clabon Berniard has pleaded not guilty to murder and robbery charges and maintained that he was not in the Sanders’ home during the robbery.

Berniard’s trial started Aug. 8.

News Tribune reporter Sean Robinson is in the courtroom and will report on the closing arguments for Thursday’s paper.

I would like to know why the word “allege” or “alleged” is always used in these cases? C’mon, if we’ve already spent the kind of money we have on these “alleged” criminals….what do we spend on the ones caught in the act ??
