Pierce County prosecutors have filed charges against a 22-year-old man accused of hitting a car on Canyon Road East on Friday evening, then fleeing the scene.

Brandon A. Human of Fort Lewis was charged Monday with vehicular assault and failure to remain at the scene of an injury accident.

Prosecutors allege he was driving a Hummer at least 60 mph on Canyon Road East just before 5 p.m. Friday. He hit a car on its driver side near 104th Street East. The car spun out of control and hit another vehicle.

The driver of the car suffered a collapsed lung and other injuries, deputies reported.

Several witnesses followed the Hummer. A Tacoma police officer detained Human a short time later. His Hummer was missing a front wheel, court documents state.

Human told deputies he was going 60 mph when a car braked in front of him. He also said he’d had a beer three to four hours before the crash.
