Pierce County sheriff’s detectives have arrested a 34-year-old man suspected of shooting his girlfriend during an argument last week in their Parkland apartment.

Investigators got a tip that Mauricio Paige-Colter was at his mother’s apartment in Parkland this morning, the Sheriff’s Department reported.

Deputies arrived and announced they were outside. Paige-Colter surrendered without incident about an hour later. He’s been booked into Pierce County Jail on suspicion of first-degree assault.

Deputies believe he shot his 24-year-old girlfriend about 10:25 p.m. Tuesday on Garfield Street as the she tried to drive away. She was sitting in the driver’s seat of a vehicle when Paige-Colter allegedly shot her with a semi-automatic handgun.

After the shooting, Paige-Colter drove his girlfriend to his mother’s apartment on 104th Street South and fled on foot, deputies reported.

The woman was expected to survive.

Only on suspicion of first degree assault???
    Something is very wrong here!!
    How about attempted murder!!
The legal system needs to come down on these thugs…

    Booked not charged.
Can’t wait to see the multipple felony charges and the life sentence he’ll get.
Unless the prosecuting attorney is a chicken or something, you know how they are down there. Can’t have a loss on the record so they charge with only the real solid evidence and let the rest go, a jury “MAY” not convict so we cant take the chance spending the money on it.

I’ve know this guy since grade school and he’s been an idiot for many years. In and out of some form of lock-up for close to 20 years. Hopefully this time the system will work and keep him occupied for the next 30 to 40 years.

I went to that same grade school and yes the man has made some poor decisions over the years. The tragic thing is he never learned from any of them. Now instead of contributing, he becomes a drain on the system.

Well of course its only assault…..she’s still alive….thats how the justice system works now, ya know? Good Lord, the man shot her in the chest, took her to HIS Mothers, now he’s found hiding at Mom’s house…..whats up with that? He was probably holding Mom in fear of her life too! ASSAULT!! REALLY?
