Pierce County sheriff’s detectives have arrested a 34-year-old man suspected of shooting his girlfriend during an argument last week in their Parkland apartment.

Investigators got a tip that Mauricio Paige-Colter was at his mother’s apartment in Parkland this morning, the Sheriff’s Department reported.

Deputies arrived and announced they were outside. Paige-Colter surrendered without incident about an hour later. He’s been booked into Pierce County Jail on suspicion of first-degree assault.

Deputies believe he shot his 24-year-old girlfriend about 10:25 p.m. Tuesday on Garfield Street as the she tried to drive away. She was sitting in the driver’s seat of a vehicle when Paige-Colter allegedly shot her with a semi-automatic handgun.

After the shooting, Paige-Colter drove his girlfriend to his mother’s apartment on 104th Street South and fled on foot, deputies reported.

The woman was expected to survive.
