One man has been found dead inside a South Hill mobile home after it caught fire this afternoon.

Investigators believe the man is the father of a Pierce County sheriff’s detective, sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said. However, the man’s identity has not been confirmed.

A neighbor called 911 just after 1 p.m. to report the fire at the mobile home in the 12600 block of 113th Avenue East, Central Pierce Fire & Rescue Assistant Chief Randy Stephens said. Neighbors tried to get inside but were not able too.

“It was just too much flame and too much heat,” Stephens said. “No one could make entry.”

By the time firefighters arrived, flames and smoke were coming out the windows and through the roof.

“It was a defensive fire,” Stephens said.

When firefighters were able to go inside the home, they found a man dead inside.

Firefighters are still working to put out hot spots. Investigators don’t have a cause and origin of the blaze.

Pierce County sheriff’s deputies also have responded to the fire.

We will update this post when more information becomes available.
