Kent man arrested in December shooting death of teenage girl

King County sheriff’s deputies have arrested a 25-year-old Kent man in connection with the death of a teenage girl last December.

The man has been booked into the Regional Justice Center in Kent on investigation of homicide, the Sheriff’s Office announced today. Bail was set at $100,000.

Kelsey Carter, 16,  had been reported as a runaway from her Enumclaw home in October. The night of Dec. 11 she was at a home in the 33900 block of Southeast Green River Headworks Roads.

There was a shooting in the home and the girl was hit. Occupants of the house put her in a truck and drove her to Enumclaw Regional Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, deputies report.

Earlier that night, the girl’s mother had spotted her with her 25-year-old boyfriend. The mother called 911 and reported seeing her daughter on the deck of the house on Green River Headworks Road, smoking.

Before deputies arrived, two vehicles left the house. The mother didn’t know if her daughter was in one of them, deputies reported.

Deputies interviewed three men inside the house, including the girl’s boyfriend. They said she wasn’t there. The men didn’t grant deputies permission to go inside.

More than two hours later, the girl was mortally wounded in the shooting.

Deputies had asked the Kent man to talk to them about the homicide Tuesday. He was booked into jail afterward.

A press release from the Sheriff’s Office didn’t specify a motive for the slaying or the relationship between the girl and the man under arrest in her death.
