The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a deadly single-car crash early today on the Key Peninsula.

A passing motorist discovered the crash about 2:20 a.m. in the 5500 block of Whiteman Road KPS , Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said.

Deputies believe a red pickup truck left the roadway and rolled. The driver, believed to be a 30-year-old man, was ejected and died at the scene, Troyer said.

Investigators didn’t immediately know why the man lost control of the truck. Troyer said there were no witnesses to the crash and no other cars were involved.

The man’s name has not yet been released because his family had not yet been notified of his death.
