Tacoma police officers made 10 arrests during Monday’s Freedom Fair festivities along the Ruston Way waterfront.
The arrests were for trespassing, assault, minor in possession of alcohol, racing, boating under the influence and resisting arrests, among others, the department reported early today.
Between 140 and 150 officers were patrolling the popular waterfront during the Freedom Fair event Monday.
How can you arrest someone for resisting arrest? Isn’t that like the chicken and the egg? Which came first? Don’t you have to be arrested for something to resist the arrest? What was the original arrest for?

I was walking up the 36th street hill after passing five cops and I could smell pot smoke…yet, they did not catch them.

If you’re not being arrested, how can you be arrested for resisting arrest?! These are just “contempt of cop” arrests usually upon people who resent being targeted and searched by virtue of location, dress, etc.)

Only 5 cops? They would need a SWAT Team to deal with a situation like that–and only after months of investigation.
Spicoli, Give the cops a break. I would not want their job in todays politically correct mentality.If they say anything wrong, or crab someone, or question someone they have to be so correct about everything every time, its a very difficult job now.
The Cops get blamed if they do, and if they don’t. In south L.A. in particular there is no way I would want their job.
notSpicol,Kevindot1…..This gives a rough tale of the happenings, it does not say that was the only charge and when an officer (who by the way most working the fest were on 16hr shifts) is questioning you and you become aggressive and non co-operative, then you are informed you are being arrested. When you resist the greater of the charges (this being “resisting” in many cases ) is the charge filed ! Now please considered the number of people at the Freedom Fair and the very small number of arrests ! So many people and very little common sense on many of their parts , it was still a great time for all !
I agree that, for all the people at the Fair, and all the booze and drugs, ten arrests is remarkable.

That would indicate a 2x normal proclivity in committing crime
140-150 cops patroling one street. No wonder my neighborhood was like a war zone. All the cops were on the waterfront and nobody was patroling the rest of the city. Would have been a great time to rob and loot!
