A man robbed the Chase Bank inside the Summit-area Safeway store Saturday and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash, the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department reported.

The man verbally implied he had a weapon, but no one saw a weapon, said sheriff’s department spokesman Ed Troyer.

The robbery took place around 11 a.m. Saturday in the bank at 11501 Canyon Road E. The robber fled in a newer model gray pickup truck, and may have had a getaway driver, Troyer said.

Troyer described the suspect as a white male, 5-foot-10 and weighing 200 pounds, wearing blue shorts, a white sweatshirt with a hood, and a red hat with black eagle on it.

Tacoma-Pierce County Crime Stoppers is offering up to $1,000 for information leading to arrests and charges in the bank robbery. Tipsters may remain anonymous.

Tipsters can call Crime Stoppers at 253-591-5959.
