Washington State Patrol troopers are investigating a deadly crash on Mountain Highway East this morning.

One man was killed in the one-car crash near 260th Street East, the State Patrol reports.

There had been reports the car had been driving recklessly away from Lakewood. The car then left the road near 260th and hit a tree, according to one report.

Both directions of SR 7 are blocked because of the investigation. The state DOT reports wires and a tree are down on the roadway.

We’ll update this blog post when more information becomes available.

The accident was north of the intersection. Cars are taking 260th east to either 54th Ave or west to Pole Line Road (8th Ave E) to get north to Spanaway.

I live off that stretch between 224th and 260th……It’s a real killer. The sight distance coming off side streets at the bottoms of the hills does not give a safe entrance when the vehicles are speeding (as most of them seem to be doing 70 or so) I’ll bet I hear at least a couple bad accidents every month. Too bad our votes don’t count out this way…we could get some entrance/exit lanes, or the third lane in the middle…but, I guess they need the money for Pierce Transit or the welfare sponges sittin’ on their porch that never go anyplace except to buy beer and dope.

Costs money to widen & pave highways. There’s always going to be places in the road where reckless drivers crash.
