The Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office has released the identities and causes of death for the mother and son who were found dead inside her North End Tacoma home earlier this week.
The office has determined that Jacqueline Hensler, 55, died of multiple stab wounds. Her death was ruled a homicide.
She was found dead along with her son, 18-year-old Ryan Simms. He died of asphyxiation after placing a plastic bag over his head. His death was ruled a suicide.
Tacoma police found the two Wednesday afternoon inside Hensler’s house in the 3900 block of North 30th Street. Hensler’s coworkers at Good Samaritan Hospital grew concerned about her after she hadn’t shown up for work for several days and asked police to check on her.
Simms had been attending college in England and recently returned home.
Tacoma police continue to look for a motive to the homicide-suicide. There was no suicide note found, police spokesman Mark Fulghum said.
