A motorcycle rider was fatally injured Monday just before 5 p.m. after colliding with an SUV while traveling south bound on Highway 167 in Auburn, Valley Regional Fire Authority officials said. The Washington State Patrol identified the man as Shawn D. McDonald, 35, of Puyallup.

Valley fire fighters and King County Paramedics responded to the accident at 4:50 p.m. The rider was pronounced dead at the scene by King County Paramedics, according to a news release. The occupants of the vehicle the rider collided with were not injured in the collision.

The State Patrol said both vehicles were traveling southbound on Highway 167 near Highway 18. The SUV stopped for traffic, but the motorcycle failed to stop in time and struck the back of the SUV, the state patrol said. The accident remains under investigation.
