Kent firefighters said a sprinkler system helped save a two-story house that caught fire this afternoon.

The blaze was reported about 12:40 p.m. and arriving fire crews found smoke and flames coming from an upstairs bedroom window.

Firefighters were able to rescue several family pets before dousing the flames. The sprinkler system was instrumental in containing the fire long enough for crews to arrive, according to the department.

The Red Cross is finding somewhere for the four displaced adults to stay.

Investigators haven’t yet determined what started the fire.
