A Federal Way nurse has been charged with second-degree rape after being accused of inappropriately touching a patient.
The state Department of Health has suspended Konstantin Kurkov’s nursing license until the charges are resolved. He has 20 days to request a hearing with the Nursing Care Quality Assurance Commission.
This is the third time in a year that Kurkov, 23, has been accused of sexual misconduct while working at St. Francis Hospital, according to charging documents.
Kurkov was working in St. Francis’ emergency department March 16 when a woman came in complaining of back pain.
Kurkov examined her and told the woman it appeared to be a disc problem. He then asked her to bend over and touch her toes, which made her uncomfortable because she was wearing only an open gown and her back was to Kurkov, according to charging documents.
The woman claimed Kurkov touched her inappropriately during a pelvic exam. Kurkov is not authorized to conduct pelvic exams, according to the health department.
The patient described him as “nervous, shaky and sweating” and told police she “left feeling violated.”
Kurkov received his nursing license in December 2009.
He has pleaded not guilty to the charge and was released from jail after posting $100,000 bail. Kurkov is due back in court Thursday.
