The Washington State Patrol and Clear Channel Outdoor launched a new campaign today to warn people who might be considering getting behind the wheel while intoxicated.

The campaign features six billboards in Pierce, King and Snohomish counties. The billboards relay the mission of the State Patrol’s Target Zero Teams, which are comprised of 21 troopers that focus on impaired drivers. The troopers are joined by police officers and sheriff’s deputies when time and funding allows.

The billboards were placed in locations where data has shown that impaired drivers are killing the most people, the State Patrol reported. They’ll be up for 16 weeks.

In Pierce County, a billboard is located at West Valley Highway and Valley Avenue East in Sumner, the State Patrol reported.

The largest billboard was unveiled this morning at Fourth Avenue South and South Walker Street in Seattle.

“We’ve always conducted our Target Zero patrols where the most tragedies were occurring, and we’re adding education in some of those same places,” State Patrol Capt. Steve Burns stated in a press release. “Our goal is to reduce fatalities and we’ll use both education and enforcement to get there.”

The State Patrol is partnering with Clear Channel Outdoor on the project.

“Through this partnership, drivers and commuters will see this message over 7.5 million times on Clear Channel signs during the course of the campaign,” Olivia Lippens, president of Clear Channel Outdoor Washington, stated in the press release.
