Love can make you do funny things, especially when you’re young.

That’s what happened to an 11-year-old Tacoma boy who stayed out too late Thursday, talking to a girl.

When he didn’t show up at home and darkness fell, his mother called Tacoma police about 9:30 p.m. The boy had gone to a park near McCarver Elementary School with some friends. He was supposed to be home by dark but hadn’t shown up, police reported.

The department launched a missing child investigation and called out detectives and search and rescue personnel. Officers contacted the boys’ friends, his father and were talking about whether to issue a public alert, Tacoma police spokesman Mark Fulghum said.

“We were looking at all the possibilities,” he said.

That’s about when the boy was discovered, unharmed. The boy was returned home shortly before 1 a.m.

“He’d met a girl and they were hanging around together,” Fulghum said.

The boy was returned to his parents.

Guess who won’t be going ANYWHERE for a while? Glad he was found safe and sound.
