Auburn family displaced after house fire

UPDATE: Fire investigators say the fire was caused by the failure of a portable electrical appliance.

Damage is estimated at $200,000.

fINITIAL POST: An Auburn family with four children was displaced today after their home in the Lakeland Hills area was severely damaged in a fire.

The Valley Regional Fire Authority was called about 10:15 a.m. to the home in the 5000 block of Elliott Court Southeast.

Firefighters found flames coming from windows on both sides of the first and second floor of the 2,200-square-foot house.

A 2nd alarm was sounded and firefighters from East Pierce Fire and Rescue, South King Fire and Rescue, Kent Regional Fire Authority and King County Medics responded.

The family was not home at the time of the blaze. The American Red Cross is assisting them.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
