The Puyallup River Bridge is temporarily closed to traffic while police and Central Pierce Fire and Rescue save a woman who was dangling from the railing.

Police Capt. Dave McDonald said it appears the woman may have been trying to jump from the bridge when her leg got caught in the railing.

Several passersby stopped and clung to the woman for about 20 minutes until emergency responders arrived to help.

The woman was taken to a hospital.

McDonald said the Puyallup River Bridge is expected to reopen shortly after 6 p.m.
